GENERAL INFO
Q: Where is it?
A: You'll find SWAG in Roanoke Park by the Community Center
Westport Roanoke KC Parks Community Center
3601 Roanoke Road Kansas City, MO 64111
Q: Where do I leave art I'd like to contribute?
A: Leave pieces inside the gallery; it's open 24/7 . Feel free to move things around to create a display that works for all the artwork.
Note: if there is a juried show going on, the gallery will be locked. There will be a drawing for the works available. Please message us through Instagram if you are interested in a piece.
Q: What size art fits into the gallery?
A: The largest 2D size: 6” x 8" (in any direction) and largest 3D size: 5"L x 5" w x 8" h; and of course anything smaller works just fine.
Q: Can I mail you a piece to put into the little gallery?
A: At this time mailed submissions are accepted only for open calls for work.
Q: If there's a piece I want, can you mail it to me if I can't come to the gallery?
A: Unfortunately that is not feasible at this time.
Q: Is there a visitor's book?
A: Currently Instagram serves as the visitor log. Please tag us when you leave or take a piece of art. Feel free to tag and share photos here.
Q: How often do you take pictures of what's inside the gallery?
A: About times two times a week. Again, feel free to tag and share photos here.
Q: Do you track and record all the pieces that come and go from the gallery?
A: I'd like to - and as much as I love seeing what comes and goes, it's just not possible to document it all.
Q: Can I buy a piece of art from SWAG?
A: All the art is free at SWAG. AND artists DO need your support. If you love a piece and the artist's name is mentioned, please try reaching out to them directly; they may have a similar piece on hand they'd offer for sale.
STARTING ONE OF YOUR OWN
Q: Can I use this idea and start my own?
A: YES, DO IT! And please keep in touch. I'm currently cultivating ideas for a network of galleries for curated and open calls for work. If you are interested in being part of a larger network please email here.
Q: Where did you get the structure?
A: We used an existing design and made some modifications. My spouse build it and I painted the structure.
Q: Can you share the plans you used?
A: The architectural design used for SWAG was created by Alyona Skripka, an artist and fabricator, based in Western Massachusetts. Please contact her about purchasing the plans.
Q: Do you sell it as a kit? Or if I can't make one of my own, what would you advise?
A: No, but you might check littlefreelibrary.org to give you some ideas and or how to have one built.
Q: Do you plan on making more of them?
A: As much as I'd love to see more Little Free Art Galleries in the Kansas City area, we are not set up to produce galleries.
